Our Story

Hear Rate Monitor ProductsThe NuMetrex line of heart rate monitor athletic apparel was created by Textronics, Inc., a leader in the development of wearable sensors for fitness and health monitoring.

Textronics was established in June 2005 by a small team that left the corporate world with the mission of bringing new technologies to market faster. Spinning off from INVISTA S.a.r.l., formerly DuPont Textiles and Interiors, Textronics started out with a rich technology portfolio based on the integration of textiles and electronics. Team members brought decades of experience to the table, having worked in the textile industry in virtually every market around the world.

In December 2005, Textronics introduced the NuMetrex Heart Sensing Sports Bra, the first consumer garment to incorporate heart rate monitor technology into the knit of the garment itself. It was named “2006 Sports Product of the Year” by the Sporting Goods Manufacturer’s Association, and was hailed as "a great replacement for traditional heart-rate-monitoring systems" by Health Magazine. By knitting special sensing fibers directly into the fabric, the NuMetrex line of athletic apparel provides an alternative to the cumbersome heart rate monitor chest straps that tend to chafe, slip and loosen during workouts. NuMetrex athletic apparel, including the Cardio Shirt for Men and Heart Sensing Racer Tank, provide seamless comfort combined with superior monitoring performance. The sensing fabric moves comfortably with the body, picking up the heart’s pulse and sending it to a compatible watch or cardio machine via a tiny transmitter that is snapped into a pocket in the garment.

The Heart Rate Monitor Sports Bra was named 2006 Sports Product of the Year.

In addition to its own NuMetrex collection of heart rate monitor athletic apparel, Textronics also markets Textro-monitoring systems and sensor components that provide non-invasive physiological monitoring for heart rate and respiration measurement. Textile sensors are capable of capturing medical quality data from the body to monitor health and fitness, or to track vital signs of first responders and emergency personnel. They can be seamlessly integrated into a wide range of garments to form a comfortable interface between the body and health monitoring devices.
