Hikers Monitor Heart Rate on Yosemite Half Dome Climb

The NuMetrex Heart Sensing "Racer Tank" and "Cardio Shirt" recently took a hike... to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. Emily and Dave Liggett wore the shirts to monitor their heart rates during this 17-mile, 12-hour, round-trip hike to an elevation of 8,842 feet (an increase of 4,800 feet from the valley floor). Adding this climb to their list of hiking accomplishments was a great way to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

The Liggetts drove to Yosemite the night before and started out early from Curry Village. Their NuMetrex shirts served as a comfortable first layer for the hike, which was cool at the start and got warmer as they reached the top.

"We did a lot of hiking last summer at Lake Tahoe, Fallen Leaf Lake and Mount Tallac, and wore our NuMetrex heart rate monitors then. There was a noticeable difference this time at Half Dome, going up to the mountains for only one day without acclimating to the altitude first," said Emily. "We enjoyed comparing heart rates against each other during the hike, and stopped to rest a couple of times when one of our heart rates got high. It was fun to look at the summary data when we finished!"
