Kids' Heart Rate Monitor Top Designed to Combat Childhood Obesity

Jun 03, 2008

NuMetrex recently showed its newly-developed heart rate monitor top for children at the annual meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine. Designed with the same patented technology used in our heart rate monitor clothes for adults, the children’s HRM shirt features stretchy textile sensors that are knit directly into the fabric to comfortably monitor heart rate and transmit the data to a compatible wrist watch or exercise machine. The technology will help researchers, physical educators, medical professionals and parents who are working to combat childhood obesity.

“One of the best ways to get children interested in physical fitness and health is to enable them to observe their own physiology via a heart rate monitor,” says Dr. Ray Browning, an obesity researcher at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and heart rate training expert for NuMetrex.com. “A heart rate monitor gives every child a chance to be successful, because the information and goals are personal to them. They don’t have to be good at sports or have athletic skill. They can choose any form of movement that elevates their heart rate, such as walking, bicycling, or even climbing stairs.”
